Common use cases

Use Case

Support conversational and need-based queries

Vector search interprets natural language like “snacks for a long flight” or “tool for installing cable trays” even when users aren’t sure what to search for.

Use Case

Support multilingual or mixed-language queries

Interpret searches like “rote handbag” or “Kinderjacke waterproof” automatically, reducing missed results in global storefronts.

Use Case

Recover long-tail and no-result queries

When keyword search returns nothing, vector search uses semantic understanding to show relevant results for niche, specific or uncommon queries.

Core capabilities

Our Product Discovery module powers the entire buying journey, helping you convert more, bounce less and keep customers coming back. With built-in, explainable AI and 20+ years of expertise, better search and discovery come standard.

Hybrid mode

In hybrid mode, keyword and vector results flow into one intelligently ranked product list. You can fine-tune the weighting of each approach to fit your strategy. This way, search covers every intent — from exact SKUs to vague, natural-language queries. The result? Fewer drop-offs, happier customers and a direct lift in revenue per customer.

Hybrid mode
Fallback mode

When keyword search would return no results, fallback mode takes over. Instead of landing on a zero-results page, customers see relevant products that match the intent and context of their query. It’s an effective way to reduce bounce rates and keep shoppers engaged in the buying journey.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between keyword search and vector search?

Keyword search looks for matching terms — it works best when shoppers know what to type, like a product name or SKU. Vector search, on the other hand, understands natural, conversational queries like “cheap gift for mom,” matching intent with relevant products even when keywords don’t align. It helps avoid zero results, reduce shopper frustration and increase conversions. Explore the full side-by-side comparison in our blog post.

How does vector search work?

Vector search uses AI to translate complex data, like products, texts and images, into numbers (vectors). These are stored in a vector database so that when someone searches with vague or complex input, the system can quickly surface similar content based on semantic similarity, not just matching words. Learn more about how this works in our deep-dive blog post.

When does vector search activate?

Keyword search remains the best tool for most queries — especially when shoppers use exact terms like product names, SKUs, or brand filters. But when queries are vague, conversational, or incomplete, vector search steps in to understand intent and return relevant results that keyword matching would miss. FactFinder offers two modes to make the most of both approaches:

  • Hybrid mode: combines keyword and vector results into one intelligently ranked product list

  • Fallback mode: activates only when keyword search finds no matches. Instead of a zero-results page, shoppers see products that best match the meaning of their query

Read more about how vector search complements keyword search in our blog.

Is vector search also relevant for B2B eCommerce?

Yes, vector search is valuable in B2B eCommerce, where buyers sometimes describe what they need for specific use cases without knowing exact product names or specs. It understands functional, use-case-based queries like “sleeve for high-voltage cables” or “chemical-resistant gloves for cleaning tanks,” helping users self-serve with confidence.
